Minimalist

Minimalist Lighting: Form Cut Back to Essentials

A minimalist fixture is recognized by what it leaves out: no ornament, no molding, no contrast of materials. A line, a circle, a cylinder, and a single flat finish that lets the light do the work. It is the easiest style to live with in an already busy interior, because it competes with nothing.

Its difficulty lies elsewhere: badly judged, it turns cold. Two corrections are usually enough. Color temperature first — stay at 2700K, since a neutral white on geometric shapes reads as an office instantly. Material second: an opal shade, a lightly satin metal rather than a polished one, a touch of brass or wood somewhere in the room breaks the severity.

Minimalism also takes repetition well: three identical pendants in a row over an island or a table land harder than one large statement piece. See our contemporary and metal & steel selections.
