Metal and Steel Lighting: The Finish Decides Everything

Metal also plays an optical role inside the fixture. An opaque metal shade pushes the entire beam downward — ideal over a counter or a table, less suited as a room's general light, since it leaves the ceiling dark. Check whether the interior is painted white, which noticeably increases the light thrown back.
