Brass and Gold Lighting: The Metal That Warms a Room
Brass is the one metal that works with warm light instead of against it. A brass or gold-finished fixture returns an amber reflection that extends a 2700K bulb, where chrome and polished steel pull toward cold. That is why it shows up so often in living rooms and dining rooms.
Two finishes to tell apart before you buy. Brushed or antiqued brass stays matte and quiet, and patinas over time — the color shifts, which is part of the appeal of the material. Polished or lacquered gold keeps its shine but shows marks more readily. Know which one you are buying: they do not look the same five years in.
Mixing metals in a room is no longer forbidden, as long as you commit: two finishes at most, spread around, rather than one per fixture. See our vintage & retro and luxury selections.
