Metal & Steel

Metal and Steel Lighting: The Finish Decides Everything

A metal fixture is judged on its finish far more than on its shape. Matte black absorbs light and draws a crisp silhouette, which is why it turns up everywhere in contemporary interiors. Brushed or satin metal catches light quietly, with no hard reflection. Gloss lacquer bounces nearby sources back and reads from across a room — fingerprints included.

Metal also plays an optical role inside the fixture. An opaque metal shade pushes the entire beam downward — ideal over a counter or a table, less suited as a room's general light, since it leaves the ceiling dark. Check whether the interior is painted white, which noticeably increases the light thrown back.

It is also the easiest material in the catalog to maintain. See our industrial and minimalist selections.
