Bathroom Lighting: The Mirror First, Then the Rating
Bathroom lighting is judged at the mirror. A single overhead source lights the top of your head and carves shadows under the eyes and chin — exactly wrong for shaving or applying makeup. The fix is lateral: two sconces flanking the mirror, at face height, around 63 inches off the floor.
Then comes moisture. The room divides into zones by distance from the tub or shower, and each zone calls for a minimum ingress protection rating: IP44 is the usual figure for fixtures nearby, with a higher rating in the direct splash zone.
